Movie Summary: Based on the true story of would-be Brooklyn bank robbers John Wojtowicz and Salvatore Naturale. Sonny and Sal attempt a bank heist which quickly turns sour and escalates into a hostage situation and stand-off with the police. As Sonny’s motives for the robbery are slowly revealed and things become more complicated, the heist turns into a media circus.
Queer Film LA Says: A true Story! Young Al Pacino plays John Wojtowicz, who tries to rob a bank in order to pay for his lover's sex-change operation. The real Wojtowicz was an active gay liberationist, and tells his own story in the 2013 documentary "The Dog."
