Movie Summary: The only son of wealthy widow Violet Venable dies while on vacation with his cousin Catherine. What the girl saw was so horrible that she went insane; now Mrs. Venable wants Catherine lobotomized to cover up the truth.
Queer Film LA Says: Despite being made under the Hays Code, this movie is uncharacteristically clear about its gay themes. Based on the Tennessee Williams play and adapted to the screen by Gore Vidal, Elizabeth Taylor plays a young woman who is institutionalized in order to keep the (gay) secrets of her recently-deceased cousin.
