Wicked Queer 40
This year's experimental shorts program celebrates difference in all of its forms while asking in what ways these films are connected. Despite differences in time, place, style, and contexts, each of these films speak to each other in ways that produce a dynamic understanding of Queerness that push beyond our typical forms.

Another You
ANOTHER YOU (2022) is an experimental visual poem centered around the experience of returning to a defining childhood place as an adult. The video is largely composed of water in varying states. This visual represents how something as constant as a single body of water has variation through time, both in form and perception, just as integral places we have always known do. There is a sense of heartbreak in being unable to recreate the magic that physical spaces held for us as a child, but in that heartbreak there lives something caught between childhood wonder and adult longing; a call for your present self to re-examine just how far from that former You you truly are.
Konstantin
Konstantin is an experimental film shot on high-contrast black and white 16mm film using a single 100ft reel. The film is an in-camera edit with triple exposures, creating a layered and complex visual language. Through this aesthetic, the piece explores themes of queer love and queer ecology. It invites the viewer to enter a unique and poetic world, where the boundaries between the human and natural realms blur and merge. Pushing against human exceptionalism & into a world where there is no natural or unnatural.
Body-oddy-oddy-oddy: Destabilizing the Surveilling of Queer Bodies
Body-oddy-oddy-oddy: Destabilizing the Surveilling of Queer Bodies explores the nature of how we understand our bodies, the ways in which we queer the body, and performative nature of how we explore our identities in mediated space. The work challenges the supremacy of normative human body-to-body contact, by exploring the role that a hybrid human-object-virtual encounter might pose for alternative forms of intimacy and exchange. The use of self-surveillance as a strategy of making and being is critical to our understanding of contemporary bodily experiences in the piece. The lens, the camera, video as both electronic mirror and surveyor, the scanner, generative A.I., and motion capture technology construct the performance of identity: who we are as hybrids and how we exploit our self-awareness and positions. Through the act of making this work, we aim to disrupt the hegemony of stable bodies in search of what might be greater potential. Breaking the intentions of the software and hardware specifications, and revealing the tools of its making, we blast open possibility for new rules and new narratives. The future is undoubtedly queer, and it's one hell of a party.
