Wicked Queer Announces 39th Film Festival

Queers Take Over Cinemas Across Boston March 31-April 9; Virtual Encore April 10-30

Wicked Queer: Boston’s LGBTQ+ Film Festival, a project of the Queer Film Institute, announces the films and shorts programs for the 39th Festival. The festival will be a celebration of Queer joy and connection. Among the feature length titles are the World Premiere of Santiago León Cuéllar’s The Good Manners; the US premieres of Big Boys and Wolf and Dog; the international premieres of Fiona Clark: Unafraid, Heels Over Wheels, and LasVegas; New England premieres of Portuguese auteur João Pedro Rodrigues’ musical odyssey Will-o’-the-Wisp, Blue Jean, Heartbeast, Splendid Isolation, A Place of Our Own, Joyland, and Follow the Protocol; and east coast premieres of Body Shop, Youtopia, Queendom, and Mutt.

The Opening Night selection, Corey Sherman’s Big Boys, will screen at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Boston on March 31. The Closing Night selection, Vuk Lungulov-Klotz’s Mutt, will screen at the Brattle Theatre on April 9.

The festival will screen at the Brattle Theatre, Emerson College’s Bright Family Screening Room at the Paramount Center, the ICA, Museum of Fine Arts, and partner screenings will happen at Boston University, the French Library, and as part of the Bright Lights Cinema Series at Emerson. Many of the films and shorts collections will be available at-home for a virtual encore on Eventive after the in-person festival; features and shorts will be available starting April 10.

This year, for the first time, the audience award winning short films will be screened together in Best in Show on April 12 at Boston University.

Tickets will go on sale March 24 through the venues with the full schedule available on WickedQueer.org.

Join Us at the Splash Party

The festival invites the community to kick off the celebration at a Splash Party on Thursday, March 23, at Worden Hall from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
