All That We Love

October 17, 2024: 7PM | Brattle Theater

Director Q&A with Yen Tan

Following the death of the family dog, Emma Gwon (Margaret Cho) is faced with an empty nest and is compelled to forge deeper connections with the people around her. Despite good intentions, her midlife awakening makes everything more chaotic for everyone in her path. All That We Love is a heartfelt and poignant depiction of grief and what it means to start anew. Through richly drawn characters, the film gently blends sorrow with insightful humor in its exploration of themes that are universal to all of us: aging, friendship, parenthood, mortality, past loves, second chances, and the profound connection with our pets.

Group Therapy

Thurs, Oct 24 | 7PM | Alamo Draft House

While “five stand-up comics walk into a therapist’s office” might seem like the setup for a joke, it also serves as the unique premise for a thought-provoking and topical new film covering a spectrum of serious challenges, from anxiety and grief to schizophrenia and suicide. Produced by Kevin Hart, GROUP THERAPY is a candid and intimate exploration of mental health through the framework of a group therapy session with some of today’s funniest comedians including Massachusetts’ own Mike Birbiglia and Gary Gulman and led by Neil Patrick Harris. In their group dialogue, personal confessionals, and stand-up clips they each bravely reveal the connection between their professional and mental health journeys. Revelatory, emotional, and hilarious, this documentary sheds new light and opens new doorways into a critical and necessary conversation about the state of mental health in our culture today.

A queer young man in a very straight world of turn-of-the-century England, Noël Coward grew up in poverty and left school when he was only nine years old. Nonetheless, by the age of 30, he was the highest paid writer in the world and a star on the Broadway stage, well on his way to becoming a world-renowned songwriter and performer. And if that wasn't enough, he was also a spy during World War II. Coward defined an era and led an extraordinary life, and this is his fascinating story told in his own words (read by Rupert Everett), along with captivating archival interviews, and a treasure trove of home movies.
